Main Duties:
The Newhouse School seeks candidates for a tenure-track professor position beginning mid-August, 2014. In keeping with the current trends of our industry, we’re looking for someone “who can do it all.” That means the successful candidate will be able to teach all our broadcast and digital journalism skills courses while also advancing an already established research agenda. The undergraduate and graduate courses the person hired could be asked to teach include reporting and producing for television, online and social-media, multi-platform news writing, multi-media storytelling, news management and ethics. This professor will teach, produce academic research centered on journalistic issues, advise students and serve on department and school committees. A Ph.D. is strongly preferred. Salary and rank are negotiable. The Newhouse School has an international reputation for excellence in public communications and is home to 1,850 undergraduate and 250 graduate students. It continues to attract the best and the brightest from all over the United States and the world. Our current freshmen ranked in the top 10 percent of their graduating classes and earned GPAs averaging 3.9. A comprehensive upgrade of the School’s studio and news production to HD digital technology is underway and this $18 million project will be completed by Fall 2014. The Newhouse complex features state-of-the-art classrooms, a media convergence lab, research centers and a focus group room, a doctoral-student suite and offices, many meeting rooms, student lounges and impressive executive education classrooms.
