Main Duties:
KGOU is looking for a dynamic Production Manager/Host to help further our public service mission through the creation and delivery of original multimedia content, promotional announcements and other news and entertainment programming. The primary responsibility of this new position will be crafting and producing signature 'local' content, new and existing, including the ongoing Business Intelligence Report, Capitol Insider, and World Views. This work requires strong organizational, technical and time management skills, and an artistic vision for the production of content suitable for broadcast and digital distribution. In addition, the Production Manager will be involved in developing and implementing KGOU's strategy for improving and expanding its content offerings and community service capacity.
Required Knowledge:
The successful applicant will also be required to serve as an on-air host to greet KGOU's listeners during NPR's weekday magazine programs. As host, they will need to be engaging, with a conversational-yet-authoritative on-air sound. This person must also possess sharp news instincts and strong storytelling skills, with an ability to both inform and entertain KGOU's growing weekday audience. The host will produce and deliver timely news, weather and traffic segments each day, produce special programming, be proficient at conducting and producing compelling interviews and well-conceived audio features, and be comfortable serving as emcee/station representative for KGOU live events.
Required Experience:
As an NPR affiliate, we've built a strong tradition of local, state and regional news coverage, and the new Production Manager/Host will play a key role in shaping our on-air sound. KGOU's newsroom has won many awards, including six of the last seven Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters “Sweepstakes Awards.” KGOU's announcers and reporters are regularly featured nationally on NPR, and the host may also be called on to file national spot news stories and features. The ideal candidate will have: • Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism, communications, political science or other appropriate field; • Two years of experience in broadcasting, or some equivalent combination of education and experience; • Strong writing skills and knowledge of AP style; • Strong audio production skills; • Experience with broadcast and audio editing software and equipment and web posting; • Effective time management and organization skills; and • Strong interpersonal skills.
