NAJA seeking applicants for Executive Director
The Board of Directors of the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA) today announced that it has initiated a nationwide search for an Executive Director to ensure the future of NAJA’s projects, initiatives and mission.
Founded nearly 30 years ago, NAJA serves and empowers Native American journalists through programs and actions designed to enrich journalism and promote tribes’ cultures. Through education and journalism programs, NAJA promotes diversity and defends against challenges to free press, speech and expression. NAJA is committed to increasing representation of Native journalists in mainstream media, and encourages both mainstream and tribal media to attain the highest standards of professionalism and responsibility.
The Executive Director will be responsible for leading and building staff, working with the board of directors to execute policies and develop short and long-term strategies for fundraising and serving members.
"We really want to find someone who can help cultivate both new and existing relationships with outside foundations as the NAJA board looks to expand the services offered to our growing membership,” said NAJA President Jason Begay. “That also means we need someone who can directly manage any and all programs we manage to adapt, so the ideal candidate has a perfect storm of talents."
The search committee will recommend to the Board of Directors a list of candidates to consider based on a track record of effective leadership in regional or national nonprofit organization, clear and effective communication, a background in promoting diversity and a clear understanding of Native American cultures and issues.
