NORMAN, Okla. — The Native American Journalists Association has selected Santa Clara, Calif., as the site for our 30th annual national conference July 10-13, 2014.

This milestone event for our organization will commemorate three decades of NAJA’s dedicated mission of serving, encouraging and enhancing Native journalism.

NAJA will partner with Native Public Media (NPM) for the second year to engage journalists and broadcasters though training sessions and panel discussions targeted at professionals in Native and mainstream media.

“Our conferences offer high-end digital training sessions and discussions on a broad range of topics facing Indian Country,” NAJA President Mary Hudetz said. “I can't think of a better location than a high-tech hub like Silicon Valley to celebrate NAJA’s accomplishments and the next 30 years of Native journalism.”

The San Francisco Bay Area location will offer conference-goers proximity to a variety of local attractions and recreation in Silicon Valley, which is headquarters for hundreds of technology corporations and startups that have innovated the way we communicate in Indian Country and the news business.

The 2014 National Native Media Conference will follow a dynamic 2013 meeting in Tempe, Ariz. More than 300 Native journalists, students, exhibitors, sponsors and educational partners gathered in July to examine issues ranging from covering the Affordable Care Act and the Violence Against Women Act to building skills in mobile video storytelling, investigative reporting and social media.

Attendees can expect networking, professional development opportunities and recognition of the best coverage of Indigenous issues at the National Native Media Awards banquet during Indian Country’s premier Native media event.
