NAJA announces partnership with Marketwired for exclusive news distribution

Toronto – November 24, 2014 – Marketwired and the Native American Journalist Association (NAJA) formed an exclusive news distribution partnership to raise awareness of Native American media professionals and the role they play in advancing opportunities for Native cultures. Through this partnership, Marketwired offers NAJA and its members the tools and ability to reach a wider mainstream audience by giving them access to media targeting, news release distribution and state-of-the-art performance reporting.

In addition, will feature a custom Marketwired Native newsfeed, and NAJA’s media and member network will receive relevant Marketwired-distributed news.

NAJA Membership and Communications Manager Rebecca Landsberry said the partnership will provide added incentives for current NAJA members.

“The partnership with NAJA and Marketwired will allow us to amplify our voices by expanding the reach of member journalists and media professionals covering Indian Country,” Landsberry said. “With the distribution system, members now have the option to share their own news coverage with 90,000 subscribers across mainstream and Native media. They can also access the Native newsfeed directly on our website so we’re glad to be able to offer this as another great benefit available to our membership.”

As a result of this new partnership Marketwired now boasts the most comprehensive Native American media distribution network in North America, giving Marketwired clients more options to reach ethnic audiences and complementing Marketwired’s existing African American, US Asian, and US Hispanic newslines.

With the combined buying power of the Hispanic, black, Asian and Native American communities expected to exceed $3.5 trillion by 2015, and with minority groups expected to be the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population over the next 50 years (US Census Bureau, 2012), it is critical for companies to target multicultural media. Just as companies have modified their product lines to meet the interests of different market segments, they're seeing the benefit of using multicultural marketing and PR tactics.

Approximately 5.2 million American Indians and Alaska Natives live in the United States (US Census Bureau, 2012). Part of NAJA’s mission is to empower its members in promoting the contributions Native cultures have made to our countries’ growth and opening up greater opportunities for these populations. The Marketwired partnership gives NAJA members the ability to expand their global media distribution so they can tell stories about Native cultures in fresh, engaging ways.

“The growth of culturally focused content and programming has exploded over the past 20 years,” said Bernadette Lee, Marketwired's vice president, global partners and media solutions. “The ethnic media play an important role by providing news about places and issues that are often absent from the mainstream media. Marketwired looks forward to working with NAJA to help them increase Native media information access and foster cultural preservation.”
