Main Duties:
The NIEA Communication and Outreach Manager position will be responsible for developing and implementing an effective multi-media contact strategy for a variety of audiences, including membership and donors. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with Native communities, Native organizations, and help lead the way in promoting Native education on a tribal, local, state, and national level. The essential functions of this position, include, but are not limited to the following: • Stewarding the publication and editing process for all staff; including copyediting, formatting, posting, and maintaining material on the NIEA website. • Regularly updating and maintaining viral marketing and social networking efforts of the organization. • Developing and implementing a communications strategy to effectively engage tribal, local, state, and national partners as well as membership regarding Native education activity and the work of NIEA. • Expanding community networks by utilizing the latest communications resources and marketing channels to develop national and local brand recognition to increase membership. • Leading communications related tasks as needed for sponsorships, partnerships, and events. • Additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge:
• Bachelor’s degree and at least three years professional experience in communications, marketing, or journalism required. • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work toward goals within deadlines and manage complex projects. • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about communications and outreach activities; including the use of social media and the latest technologies to increase brand recognition. • Excellent interpersonal skills with groups and individuals in diverse settings and the ability to use a range of techniques including face to face, video and telephonic conferencing, email, and other written correspondence. • Excellent writing and editing skills with experience writing press releases, opinion editorials, website articles, and other professional publications. • Knowledge of and experience working with Native people and Native organizations. • Strong computer competencies; especially in desktop, web design, webinar production, and database management software. • Fundraising experience preferred.
