Empower Indigenous media with your tax-deductible donation to the Native American Journalists Association on #GivingTuesday!

#GivingTuesday is a day of giving highlighting charitable organizations’ missions and the important work they do in global communities. The mission of the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA) empowers a unique network of members in advocating for fair and accurate media coverage of all Native people and communities.

Earlier today, NAJA denounced comments from President Donald Trump and condemned the use of the name “Pocahontas,” as a racial slur. Responding to inaccuracies of Native Americans in the media is one of many ways NAJA guides and influences mainstream reporting.

Your tax-deductible donation to NAJA supports reporters covering issues key to Indian Country and empowers Indigenous storytelling by providing resources to Native and non-Native media.

We develop and train the next generation of storytellers
NAJA supplies a pipeline of talented young professionals for mainstream and tribal media through college scholarships and internships for Native American college students. NAJA also funds the annual Native American Journalism Fellowship, which provides journalism students with hands-on newsroom experience and professional mentors throughout the year.

We advocate for a free and independent press in Indian Country

Tribal nations have the sovereignty to decide how they want to protect freedoms of press and information. NAJA believes that when tribal media are empowered to report and share information in a manner that is consistent with fair and truthful industry practices, Native communities are stronger.

We recruit and refer greater numbers of Native professionals into the industry

Working with our partners in mainstream media, NAJA acts as a critical referral service for increasing the number of Native journalists in the industry. With your support, we will continue to grow this referral function and increase the number of Native professionals in media.

Your support enhances ethical coverage of Indigenous communities, promotes diversity within the industry and provides resources for freedom of the press in Indian Country!
