Fund for Investigative Journalism Seeking Grant Proposals
Program focuses on reporting on state, local and ethnic communities
Washington, DC -- The Fund for Investigative Journalism is issuing a final call for grant applications from journalists investigating issues in their states and local communities and from ethnic media journalists working on investigative stories in their communities.
The deadline for applications is Monday, April 5, 2010. The Fund can now accept applications directly through its newly redesigned website, www.fij.org.
The program for investigations by local, regional, and ethnic media is funded by a $100,000 grant from The Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation.
"This grant will address a pressing need for watchdog reporting in regions where newsroom cutbacks have hollowed out investigative staffs and in communities covered by the ethnic media," said Brant Houston, president of the Fund.
For more than forty years, the Fund for Investigative Journalism has supported work by reporters who do not have the resources to do their investigations, with grants ranging from $500 to $10,000. The Fund's distinguished board not only decides which applicants to help, but also provides guidance in pursuing stories and placing them with media outlets.
The Fund depends on donations from foundations and individuals. Donations can be made online, or by mail to The Fund for Investigative Journalism, 910 17th Street NW - 7th floor, Washington DC 20006.
FIJ’s site was redesigned by the Global Media Centre (www.theglobalmediacentre.com).
