Award-winning, non-profit news magazine and Web site seeks an experienced, energetic and innovative Editor in Chief to oversee its flagship publication and digital content. The Editor in Chief manages HCN’s team of editors, field correspondents and freelancers, and reports to the executive director.
Candidates must have extensive knowledge of the West and the environmental, economic, political and social issues it faces; at least five years experience as an editor with a newspaper or magazine, with significant management experience; a proven ability to do enterprise journalism; a commitment to the craft of editing; an aptitude and appetite for digital journalism; an appreciation of small-town rural life; and superior organizational and time-management skills. This is a full-time position based in Paonia, Colo., population 1,600.

COORDINATOR, PUBLICATIONS

Manage the progress of projects through the specified unit, including monitoring the project,coordinating completion of essential tasks, and reviewing the project quality.
Typical work related activities include:
- Produce promotional publications and test materials.
- Review preparation of electronic documents for printing and other reproduction.
- Review printer’s proofs and printed copies for errors and acceptability.
- Instruct graphic arts staff on production procedures.
- Write internal and external printing specifications.
- Develop templates for tests graphics and promotional publications.
- Maintain quality control for other artists’ graphic projects and manage workflow.
- Participate in project reviews.
- Maintain proficiency in publishing applications, graphic reproduction, and printing technologies.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in making work-related decisions.
- Assist in selection and acquisition of graphics and photography.
- Troubleshoot design and production problems.
- Maintain archive of current projects.
- Make press checks.
- Assist in hiring graphic artist positions.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 to 7 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. Computer usage and a basic understanding of QuarkXPress, Freehand, PhotoShop, Streamline, CorelDraw, Power Point, and Acrobat. Finalist(s) for this position will be subject to a pre-employment background check as a condition of employment.

Creative team of custom publishers seeks a consulting editor. Initial role would involve support for an RFP for a publication geared to a Native American audience, including brainstorming content.
